Week beginning Monday, 13th August

Postby Geoffm » Sun Aug 12, 2018 10:31 pm

It looks like a week characterised by west, but sometimes strong, winds. Not a lot of rain.

Monday is WNW/NW: should be ok for hangies, but probably a little strong for PGs.

Tuesday/Wednesday stronger, probably blown out for hangies too.

Thursday is a little bit lighter, west, should be good for hangies, maybe for PGs, but will be top end.

Friday/Saturday blown out again.

So certainly hangies should get one or two days in; PGs if they are lucky, and the winds are less than forecast.

Just checked the Blipspot forecasts for today and it looks like the Long Mynd will be flyable for PG this evening from about 6pm, winds are NW and lightening up. Lawley might be ok too but still looking too strong for the Wrekin?

Tuesday 14th looking too strong for PG on tonight’s forecast with westerly winds blowing top end in the morning then increasing as the day goes on. Metcheck has it at 8-13mph until lunchtime but XC Weather and RASP forecasting stronger. Shame as it looks not bad otherwise!

Cloudy all day, in spite of the forecast. One or two hangies did fly on the Mynd, but that was it.

The rest of the week is windy. Hangies might fly on the Mynd on Thursday, though that is probably being optimistic. No chance at all the rest of the week for PGs, on current forecasts.

We'll update if anything changes.

Forecast for this weekend is dominated by a high to the south, low pressure to the north with the UK underneath a line of frontal systems. Looking too windy for PG but a glimmer of an evening soaring flight at the Long Mynd possibly Saturday or Sunday as the westerly winds drop off. Quite a bit of variation in the forecasts so as always it’s a case of keep an eye on current observations, XX Weather wind map, Mynd Webcams and aiming off!
