Week beginning Monday, 23rd July

Sorry this is late, I was away and got distracted.

Monday is currently flyable on the Mynd, as you can see from the cams. Lot of cloud cover, but should be thermic too.

Tuesday: SW going through to West. Easiest thing is probably to site on the Mynd till it comes on. Soarable. RASP showing crap thermal development though. A weak front I think.

Wednesday: pretty light winds, probably vaguely westerly, but not soarable strength. Thermic though. It's showing light in the Peaks too, but generally that is a much better bet when it is light, than round here.

Thursday: winds picking up, southerly. Maybe the Gyrn would be the best option if not too strong.

Friday: Back to west, soarable on the Mynd.

Weekend: looks like SW at the moment.

Tuesday - the forecasts don't agree much at all this evening for tomorrow. Could be awful and grubby, or could be very nice - RASP is indicating bands of super air in a SW-NE direction and it all depends just where they are tomorrow. Direction probably SW or there-abouts. Will update first thing in the morning.

Unfortunately, Dave's first option, awful and grubby, is right at the moment, though it does seem to be getting a bit brighter. It's even rained a bit. West, but windy too - 14-22 knots at the moment, though it has been less. That is probably an aberration, generally the wind should be less than this today. It still might be doable later on.

Tomorrow still looking pretty light, and not enough to be ridge soarable. Probably westerly, and thermic.

Wednesday has RASP giving a fantastic XC forecast, however I'm not sure it's going to be quite that good. There's a lot of high level cloud over our area at present, and most of the UK really. Winds are fairly consistently due to be light but westerly, so there's a reasonable chance it will come on to the Mynd sometime enough to launch into thermals, but probably not enough to ridge soar. Cloudbase not massively high - maybe 4000ft, but at least our area should have cumulus clouds and not blue.

Other options, basically somewhere high. Malverns might work, Blorenge, Peak district, but I think anywhere will be more luck than judgement where to launch from.

RASP was right for Wednesday after all, with huge flights done from many sites, especially the top guys from the Winch, a gently westerly breeze giving way to no wind up high making launching and then triangles for many a relatively easy option.

Thursday is a day when west is best as the thunderstorm risk is coming from the South East and taking longer to get into Wales, should be ok all day for us. Winds increasing during the day with some nice cumulus at 4000ft plus. Plenty of choices really in a general southerly wind I think, Wrekin especially early on or Gyrn Moelfre, with possibly Corndon, though it's not good for soaring in that direction but could be a good XC starting location, however the Welshpool airspace makes going downwind an issue to avoid. Another option would be the South/SSE face of Camlo.

Looks like being the last chance of good flying for a few days at least.

Friday in our area is supposed to be fery wet later, but theres the chance this morning in a southerly breeze, which with the rain will also get strong. Nit a grat chanc but just to the east of our patch the weather is due to be really nice for a while, maybe Mere will work but thats a long drive.
