Week beginning Monday 22nd November

Week beginning Monday 22nd November

Postby Dave Thomas » Mon Nov 22, 2021 7:51 am

Monday looks like being a really difficult direction. Nice sunny day but wind due to be north becoming east of north the further west you are. If it was a thermic summers day then XC people would probably go to corndon, but that's not now and it's a poor direction to soar corndon if not pretty well north. To fly maybe 100 House a better bet or even llangollen. Into England due to be too windy.

Tuesday winds too light to soar.

Don't know if anyone got out today, looked nice in late afternon?
Tuesday too light still.
Wednesday a possibllity on the mynd, though forecasts vary between nice air and damp and dismal.
Thursday northerly but between ok and too windy.

Tuesday marginally more wind now forecast, but the best wind is where the thickest low cloud is. Wrekin might be OK with a NNW wind there as long as clear of the low cloud.

Dave, I or someone else will reboot the cam today or tomorrow - that's probably all it needs. Also, a new anemometer has been fitted today, so it is giving wind speed and direction again. It might need to be calibrated, for direction, we'll compare it with the LMSC station over the next few days. I'll update the MGC web site (I don't do the LMSC site) to remove the warning notes when the cam is back up.

Wednesday looks flyable at the mynd. A lot of thick low cloud but the charts indicate it will be above the hill.. mynd seems to be in an area of higher winds so might be a vit strong later on.

useful having a north and south camera- north looks quite nice, south still in cloud, but the mynd does look promising for today.

People did fly and soar the mynd today but ftom mid afternoon the wind dropped off and looks like everyone went home.
Thursday I think blown out north to NNW wind.
Friday and weekend no good.

Today, winds slightly less than previously forecast, but more North or NNE. Long Mountain may be ok but don't bank on it, but if east of north tends to be rather turbulent from the hill in front as at that point the wind is more than 45 degreees off the slope. Other possible chance is Corndon as much of the winds flows around it. Nice air if it is not too windy.

Sunday looks cold but nice for the mynd. Ice on roads might be an issue getting up.

Sunday, Looks nice, however there's a split amongst all the weather forecasts. About half of them say WNW at the Mynd, the other half say NNW around here. Windy aloft towards the almost certainly unobtainable 400-ft cloudbase - thermals not strong enough for us. Unless the forecasts change much it could be throw a dice to chose which site to attempt to get to. I think the safest thing for the Mynd will be to walk up.

Wind on the mynd today, but due to cloud over by lunchtime and an increasing chance of snow coming in from the NW. Some forecasts say pretty gusty too.
