Week beginning Monday 8th August

Week beginning Monday 8th August

Postby Dave Thomas » Sun Aug 07, 2022 10:53 pm

I haven't yet looked at the rest of the week but Monday looks to be a great xc for a few pilots who are lucky enough to be on the right hill and launch at the right moment. But for most it's more likely to be a dissapointing day with light winds and varying in direction locally. Mostly sort of north ish but anything from east to west in between. Site choice, somewhere big with the chance to slope land or any easy lift back up. Corndon is our obvious one but notoriously fickle in these conditions but the wrekin also stands a chance. Llangollen maybe for the easy road back up and height.?

Ditto on yesterday's conditions though most forecasts indicate either N or NE firethorn if there's any wind. Still really good thermic air.

Today might be very light east or in fact specifically in our area any direction is possible. So no chance of ridge soaring but its another stonking thermal day but later on from early afternoon. Corndon is the nost likely but its not the biggest hill so any of our others could just as easily be a launching point to get a climb.
After today the forecasts say it will set up as light east all the way through for 4 days until the weather breaks next week.

Still not expected to be ridge soarable wind speeds. If on corndon or wrekin do expect very high and violent low level turbulence. This is due to the superheated dry ground and micro inversions even late in the day. General main thermal top inversion expected to be very high and getting even higher tomorrow.

The light winds are now forecast to be east to north east. Less radical conditions much later in the day with the inversions breaking up to be just one really high above 8000ft.
Saturday broadly similar but Sunday not sure about yet as it depends on how soon the weather change approaches.

Sunday less windy at corndon, it was windy there yesterday but reported as not very soarable despite it being nicely on the hill. Today is due to be more SE direction there
An alternative might be the wrekin where it is due to have more wind but it might be too far off to the east there as the wind is more east the further east you are in our area.
