Update on club weather station changes

Postby Dave Thomas » Thu Nov 17, 2022 2:47 pm

Following issues identified a few weeks ago during storms, the Long Mynd weather station has had a brand new Anemometer and wind direction vane installed today. Hopefully the reliability of the wind direction sensing will be perfect again.

Also today, in readiness for installing a weather station and camera at the very top of The Lawley, the remains of the old smashed up weather cock have been removed with th help of an electric grinder and a long ladder and some heavyweight ballast stopping me being blown off. The agrement with the land owner and tenant farmer is that we will repair and replace the existing weather cock on the telegraph pole as this is part of the landowners family mascot. In doing so, they are allowing us to install a weather station on the same pole. We will have to have a replacement N,S, E, W display thing made up by a blacksmith and then install that along with our kit - we don't yet have a tmescale for that but we're on the move now with things.

Many thanks to the Long Mynd committee and club members (Frank Staniland, Tony Flint and David Bibby) for help with this work on a very windy but surprisingly dry day.
