Wrekin hill low helicopter warning

Postby Crawford Coulson » Mon Jul 19, 2021 2:55 pm

More details are on the LMSC Site reports Telegram group, however to spread the word a summary below:

A helicopter went over the top of the Wrekin directly above the usual PG NW launch point at low altitude on Sunday causing serious concern of rotor downwash affecting wings on launch and a serious risk of a downwash incident or collision if PG/HG pilots had been flying and the helicopter pilot had failed to spot them.

Maybe this was a one off, maybe this is a sightseeing flight that will do it again.

I’d suggest for the next few weeks at least if there is even a tiny chance you might fly the Wrekin submit a CANP anyway so hopefully the pilot in question sees that because I can only assume he/she has no idea paragliders/ hang gliders might be using it!

Please report back if you experience any issues!
