MGC North Facing Camera

Postby Roy Dade » Sun Sep 06, 2020 12:12 pm

Any chance that the north facing camera that overlooks the Mynd Take off can be re-activated on the webcams and weather page? One for Brian perhaps?

It has been a slow tortoise journey, but it (the complete new system) might be all working next week, people are booked in for the work and barring any technical issues - fingers crossed.

Roy, Well the Sarn Holfuy is not in the best shape as the storms have pushed the pole over, but you do get a nice view of a non-specific bit of sky. So yes it will need to have something done with it. Having the camera at Sarn is still very valuable to see what's heading towards the Mynd so once it's pointing in a suitable direction then it will still have significant value. It is amazing how often the conditions just that short distance from the Long Mynd are so radically different.
There is a possible opportunity to fly somewhere near Sarn which is being investigated by committee, alternatively it may go on another flying site but it needs to be somewhere safe from theft and vandalism. My personal choice would be Camlo as it's pretty quiet and got so much flying potential and is a long way from any other weather reporting tool.

Dave

Thanks for the heads up, agreed on a cam at Camlo, such a nice site.
