Week beginning Monday 24th August

Postby Dave Thomas » Mon Aug 24, 2020 6:57 am

Monday has such a varied forecast for our area. Varying from light westerly and reasonable chance of being ridge soarable to overcast and cu-nims with virtually no wind and variable in any direction. Further east and north like the peak district looks more promising but even there the forecasts vary quite a bit. For us the mynd is light west at present but is probably due to decrease , so its a case of watch what happens to see if worth going out.

Tuesday rainy
Wednesday a possibility at present.
Weekend good fingers crossed.

Wednesday evening might be launchable for PGs at the mynd as the lower air
becomes more laminar but the upper winds are still strong so more likely to be gale hanging conditions.

Wednesday turned out better than I expected with HG's flying most of the day and even PG's during the afternoon.

Saturday at present looks blown out even for Long Mountain, but it's one of those places that can surprise with what wind it can take, and at least it's one of the safest places to get blown back at.

Sunday cautiously very good, but site choice may be an issue if it's NNE as some forecasts predict as many don't like Corndon for so many reasons. Maybe 100 house or Snowdonia where winds may be quite light.

Looks to be more northerly now than NNE, which brings Corndon into a better direction to soar, though its still not really a ridge soaring place, just somehere to fly and leave. I know there are loads of people going to 100 house, or long mountain I think will work though it wont be pefectly on the hill if theres a good breeze it does work fine if due north wind. Llangollen may cope better than long mountain if there is some east of north in the wind though I'm cautious about there as its difficult to launch a pg if windy there just due to the hill profile on top, ideal place for HGs today though and is more into wales and the good air if the sea breeze does not come in. Wind speed forecasts vary quite a bit today from pretty light to top end for PGs. Wind might drop later in day which may then make long mountain less soarable. The air is good today and Wales is the place to be amongst a few orher places.
