Week beginning Monday 27th July

Postby Dave Thomas » Sun Jul 26, 2020 10:44 pm

Tuesday is westerly but at present looks blown out for PG but might be on for HGs.
Wednesday and Thursday look more promising, west on wed, then going south.

Today much nicer than Monday, but i think still due to be blown out even for HG launching and Not really any better elsewhere.
Wednesday is wavering between being really good and just an ok ridge soaring day, probably the long mynd but forecasts are between wsw and wnw with lighter winds and better air to the south of our area.

Wednesday still has a little variation between forecasts, mostly on just how strong the wind is. Almost certainly launchable at the Mynd for HG and PG's, though there might be times when it is too windy for PG's depending on which forecast is correct on that. There is likely to be some thermic cloud spreadout, but I think that may reduce as the cloudbase rises, with base varying between 3 and 4500 ft possibly at best. There could be some large-ish clouds form, but not due to grow high and problematical. Looks a nice day for those that can get out, and remain so into the evening for those less experienced with thermic conditions or if it's a bit windy in the day.

Thursday has southerly and stronger winds than yesterday by a small amount. Wrekin might be on though as its a spine back ridge launching there when windy has significant risks. The inversion is actually due to lower during the day after the innitial rise in the morning and wind speed increase a little, so finding the best time to try , i think probably mid morning.
Friday blown out.
Weekend possibly back on the Mynd.

Today has Wales with lighter winds so might just be ok, with Camlo best or maybe Corndon another choice though winds could vary between SE and SSW. Blue day with inversion around 3000 ft so should be locally thermic soarable as well.

Saturday and Sunday both broadly westerly, but both days probably on the windy side at times, and neither day exceptional air conditions but probably flyable at times for HG and PG at times on both days. Good chance of some rain on Saturday with big clouds to 10,000ft. Monday looks better.

Thanks Dave, I'll be up later and will have a look at it. The one facing the LMSC launch (remember this is NOT available on the LMSC site for some bizarre and unexplained reason, just on the MGC site at https://www.midlandgliding.club/weather-information/) is still working. As is the west facing time lapse cam which shows the wind sock too.

It's just been knocked when they were replacing some curtains. I'll fix it when I go up later. It's not exactly the end of the world is it. You can clearly see people flying on the other two cams. You can see the wind strength, etc.
