Week beginning Monday, 16th December

Postby Geoffm » Sun Dec 15, 2019 8:09 pm

Another poor week, though there might be an odd chance or two.

Monday: winds starting off strong, but dropping during the day. SW, but going south, which isn't that hepful. Maybe Clatter if it stays SW, or the Gyrn if it goes more south. Cloudy but dry.

Tuesday: could be light rain early on, but shoud be dry later. West, but pretty light.

Wednesday: SE, but probably blown out.

Thursday: blown out.

Friday: unclear at the moment. Probably showery. Somewhere between east and south.

Weekend: probably blown out.

Tuesday forecasts vary a bit but most indicate an almost reasonable amount of wind and sunny in wales, mostly SW direction but might just be wsw or nearly west at a little altidude above hillls. The mynd is on the edge of the cloudy no wind English area. Options clatter or elan valley. Its easier for most to get to is the mynd and more particularly black knoll, but more chance of it not being soarable today.

I was hoping today (Sunday) was looking dry and flyable, but probably now going to be too windy on our sites, with the lapse rate charts showing a very marked increase in wind speed with height touching maybe 40 knots at a couple of thousand feet, so there's likely to be a lot of turbulence even if the ground winds appear much lower.

The wind was actually a lot less than expected, and people did fly at the Mynd. And, amazingly, there was no rain - well, just a bit, but not much. And the sun even appeared, a bit. Sailplanes flew at the MGC too - the first time for a couple of weeks.
