Week beginning Monday, 11th February

Monday should be flyable on the Mynd for PGs, WNW. Winds are dropping throughout the day though.

Tuesday: SW, so Clatter, but possible a little breezy for PGs.

Wednesday: south, no good around here, but windy anyway.

Thursday onwards: southerlies the rest of the week, and mostly windy.

Geoff was exactly right with Monday's weather, with numerous people getting to base up to 3 1/2 thousand feet which is pretty good for mid February. We could do with a camera pointing vertically up - I couldn't see what people were doing, just launching and disappearing and the MGC cameras went down again as well.

Unfortunately Geoff's probably also right for the rest of the week too - can't see much good in it. could be flyable somewhere at times, but would have to be a low down hill for ridge soaring only, due to the expected low cloud level and wind strength.

The wind low down looks reasonable, but the temperature inversion level is not due to be high, usually lower than the height of our hills or thereabouts, and wind speeds much higher above the inversion, with some small changes of direction. Therefore difficult to advise on suitable south or SSW facing hills, as these factors will be critical to whether it's launchable or blown out and also safely flyable once in the air, places like the Wrekin being a spine back make that all the more difficult. Corndon south side might be ok, but it's a pretty poor ridge soaring face though at least the launch area is nice grass and being blown back is not a problem.

On the plus side, a lovely pleasant sunny day.

This goes for just about the next week too by the look of it.
