Week beginning Monday, 8th October

This week looks shit. Blown out every day. Heavy rain towards the end of the week. Obviously, if anything changes, we'll update here. Hopefully, it won't be as bad as the current forecasts indicate.

Today Wednesday has very low windspeeds at present at ground level, and mist which will clear, but much stronger winds higher up. later on it may be flyable at Corndon, but beware as Corndon's going to be about the height of the inversion level and lapse rate charts show a massive increase in windspeed above the inversion towards 40knots, therefore the inversion level may be turbulent to start with and impenetrable wind speeds above that. Having said that, there's a fair amount of variation possible due to local blocking affects of Mynd and hills in front so it could be ok in the end.

Great pic illustrating Dave's description of Wednesdays wind - none at surface level but look at the smoke from the chimney just a little higher up! (Pic courtesy of Steve Spingys, photo taken early morning in Derbyshire.)

The photo that Geoffreposted on does not look real - it's like a sci-fi view from another planet.

Sunday was looking great, but now probably not, although the forecasts are not agreeing at all really, so worth getting your batteries charged ready for Sunday just in case.

Sunday - The BBC forecast online says raining in our area almost all day, but the BBC TV on Friday night said it will clear during the day from the west. All the other forecasts are similarly optimistic - with winds probably NW or northerly but the right speed and clear air. If in doubt go further west so the likes of Llangollen seem a good plan at this moment, but watch the weather cameras and our weather stations to see progress from early morning.
