if anyone is planning a guided trip/holiday soon and pondering insurance you may be interested in this;
my last one DID NOT pay out after the ash trouble - taginsurance through either sunsoar and northern paragliding.
chad's DID - airsports, BHPA insurance bureau advertised in skywings. bit more expensive but worth it in the end

Hi Ellie,
If more of us made more fuss when we got a bum deal from insurers it might encourage them to treat us a bit better ? Suggest you write to Skywings & also inform Northern that their recommended insurer is pants.

An independent Insurance expert went on live TV at the height of the problem and said that if anyone who was disrupted by the Ash Cloud chaos and were claiming travel disruption costs should invoke a claim against the insurance company with the Insurance Services Ombudsman then it would be very likely to end in your claim being paid.
Why?
Because it costs the insurance company £1,440 per claim to defend it against the Ombudsman. It seems it would be more cost effective to pay then fight it.
It’s not too late to make that claim Ellie.
