BBQ - brilliant!
Posted by Geoff Minshull at 2010-07-04 10:11

A huge thanks to Ellie, Paul, Yaz, Richard, Chris and all the others who helped out with this. It was a brilliant event, loads of fun, and even I was sociable - and have a hoarse voice this morning to prove it. Made all the better by being flyable more or less till dark, with one spell of wave/thermals/cloudsuck/convergence (or something like that) which hoofed everybody up a few thousand feet late on in the evening.

well, not quite the barmy night i promised but not far off. people were flying throughout the day though it was strong. but how good was the evening session? lots in air meant lots of smiles on the ground later.
the whole event was was such as success due to 4 things; 1; the weather (thanks to your deity of choice) 2; the bbq (thanks richard, what a creation!) 3; the music (thanks paul, brilliant! wanted to dance all night but my legs thought otherwise) and 4; everyone else who turned up and contributed ( chris richards for the wood, chris haynes for the gene, plenty of you brought food/drink to share)
must thank the people who put in raffle prizes - mark from beyond extreme, mo from the crystal balti wordsley stourbridge, housmans cafe bar church stretton, eddie and paul. we raised about £150.
if there's anyone else i've forgotten- sorry but i'm a little 'tired'
i don't have any photos but i'm sure others do.
lots were asking if we could do it again before the end of summer....maybe?

BIG thanks !

A great event & well worth the effort. Thanks to all those who put in the hard work - particularly Ellie, Rich & Paul. Due to its sporadic nature free-flying isn't always the most 'sociable' of sports but do's like this show what can be done when everything comes together.

a few prizes not collected from last night;
ticket no 148 won a bottle of beer. it's not that i don't trust you lot.. but if i don't see the ticket, it's not yours (see below for ulterior motive).
dave broughton won a hat. practical yet attractive.
mick bird-jones won a chinese paper lantern. but... we lit it, sorry. how ever, our crime did not pay. the thing refused to fly. think of it as how we saved you from that disappointment. if ticket holder 148 does not come forward then the beer's yours

PS - It probably WAS a barmy night - if not quite balmy !

Ticket 148 was my brother in law's and he's on his way home to Ireland via Spain. I think he'll probably donate the beer to Mick and I have another lantern for him too.

I thought it was a bit barmy, some of the outfits and dancing were! You can judge for yourselves... http://www.judithmole.net/photo_galls/LongMyndBBQ2010/index.html

Let's do it all again... soon!

Yes an excellent evening, big thanks to all who put the effort in to make work.
Look forward to the next one!

Again, well done all involved. Good flying, good grub, great barbecue - nice one, Rich - and a very good time had by all.

A special mention should be made of the exceptional contribution to the entertainment by the young Mr Attley. Top shapes, dude!

What a wonderful evening. Well done Ellie and all - how did you arrange the weather? Would have been good without the added fun of flying, but that just made it. Roll on the next one.
