para/hang gliding first aid course
Posted by Ellie Hoskins at 2010-06-29 19:45

it's something we all hope we'll never need to do - but would you know how to help someone who had been injured whilst flying? having basic yet effective knowledge of first aid could make all the difference.

we are planning to run a first aid course this november. it is aimed specifically to cover the type of injuries para/hand glider pilots might incur.
it will be a one day course (saturday in november) based at the powis arms, lydbury north.
cost should be about £35

we ran this course last october and feedback was brilliant. it's reasuring to know there are already people on the hill who are trained to help. wouldn't it be great to have more!

let me know if you are interested.
i'll fix a definite date asap

right, now back to the important stuff.
don't be scared. you'll proberly only ever have to deal with a twisted ankle or someone choking on their sandwich.
it's mostly knowing the procedure for keeping someone comfortable and passing on information when the proper help arrives.
some people put their name down for last year. can you please contact me if you are still interested

Ellie

I'm interested - always good to get a refresher, and paticularly if it's flying orientated.

Thought I would bump this back up. I would recommend this course to everybody having been on it last year.
All very relavent to what we do as well as in everyday life, there are no exams to worry about and its all very informal. We all hope we never have to put what is taught into action but what you learn might just make a difference to your flying buddies if the worst happens.
Give it ago, what have you got to lose!?

Not just the difference you could make to your flying buddies, but the difference it could make to you! When I broke my arm ten years ago, there was nobody who had any first aid knowledge assisting me and I was rolled over and put in the recovery position... not a good place for my arm. I did a first aid course as a result - not just so I would be assured that at least there would be one first aider at an accident if I was there, but also so that if anything ever happened to me again I would be able to direct others in what they should or shouldn't do.

Even if it's just for your own health, it's good to do this course.
