The Long Mynd take off field is owned by the club. It is located just east of the border between England and mid-Wales, and is one of the best hang gliding and paragliding sites in the UK. On good days it can get busy, and to ensure that club members can get access to the site at these times, flying activities may be marshalled. There is a site fee of just £3.00 per day to non-members flying at weekends and bank holidays.
The club manages a number of other sites in Shropshire and East Wales on behalf of members, taking a variety of wind directions. One of them is members only, and one is barred for paragliders by the landowner. Visiting pilots need to contact the chairman, secretary, membership secretary, or coaches to check on flying access during the year. A site guide is sent to all new members.
There are a number of coaches within the club, who will help any pilots seeking advice on the hill. Coaching events and exam sessions are arranged occasionally or are available on request.
Both the club magazine and the Website keep members informed of news, gossip, social events, contacts, coaching and competition events, equipment & gliders for sale, etc. There are about four magazines published a year, and seven or eight monthly flyers, which are posted to members free of charge. A list of current club members is available to other members to help you make contact with other local pilots.
These are held at the Shakespeare pub in Bridgnorth High Town on the last Wednesday of each month at about 8pm. Events include lectures, socials, barbeques, quizzes, curry nights, and video nights. Meetings in the July and August holiday period are usually just informal get-togethers in the pub downstairs, and December is just too busy with Christmas.
LMSC membership fees have dropped again for the year 2005/2006 and are likely to remain at around this level.
